Neri Clinics & Football
.....Reaches out to Young Men through Sport.................
In the initial months of our clinic in the Linda township a particularly neglected and at risk group of young people were identified as being less than frequent attendees at the clinic. The majority of the clinics 4000 registered patients are women and children. Neri Clinics responded by organising with the assistance of the local soccer team and a Spanish NGO based in the area a Soccer Tournament.
At the event that was attended by hundreds of young men and women representatives of Neri Clinics ran Blood pressure checks & heart Examinations on all the athletes & supporters as well as providing information on the diseases affecting young people and how they can be prevented. Those in attendance were told of the new clinic operating in their community and how this clinic was there to prevent as well as treat diseases affecting Linda’s population.

Neri representatives were Doctors Patrick McSharry, Cillian Clancy & Caoilfhionn Ni Leidhin who had all spent time in the clinic working for a number of weeks. They had a busy day at the event! Jim & Helena Sheehan of Neri Clinics were visiting from Ireland and have taken a particular interest in the use of sport in the promotion of healthy living in Linda.
Neri Clinics was delighted with the turn out and hope to make this an annual event to raise awareness of the role of the clinic in the promotion of good health in the community. It definitely exceeded all expectations. There was a knock on effect seen the following week in the clinic’s attendees. More young men arrived asking for information on the clinic and how they could live healthier lives. This made the event an immediate success. It is worth remarking the quality of football on display was also something that stood out!
