In a time of difficult financial
circumstances for many Neri Clinics is greatly
appreciative to all who have undertaken fundraising
events or made individual donations. We are sincerely
grateful to all those who have donated to Neri Clinics
as the success of the clinic and the lives of the
patients is dependant on such generosity. Here is a
flavour of the events that have made the work of Neri
Clinic’s possible and we are forever looking for
volunteers to organise events in their locality.
PAST EVENTS:
Mizen to Malin Cycle June 2009:
The Mizen to Malin
Madness is a physical challenge of epic proportions
being undertaken by three Doctors in the
Mater
Hospital in
Dublin to raise much needed funds for the Neri
Clinic. The cycle consists of 615 km in total, spanning
the length of Ireland commencing on June 18th in Mizen head
Cork, completing over 200km per
day over 3 days finishing on the evening of June 20th in
Malin head Donegal. The doctors involved are Dr Barry
Kelly, Dr Robert Moran and Dr Paul Foran. To date over
2,400 euro has been raised and we hope raise over 10,000
euro in total. The journey will take the bikers from Mizen
Head to
Limerick via
Charleville on Day 1. Day 2 commences in Limerick
through Galway and finishing in Sligo while Day 3
takes us from Sligo
to Letterkenny and onto Malin head. Support is crucial
to the clinic to help many thousands of Zambians less
fortunate than ourselves. You can support us
directly by cheque to the postal address on the
NeriClinics website or by sponsoring 'Barry Kelly'
on 'Mycharity.ie'
Sligo
Town Flag Day August 1st
2009:
Neri Clinic
needs your help and if you are in or about
Sligo
Town on August 1st
2009 Please support our collection. If you wish to
assist and partake in the collection your assistance
would be greatly appreciated and please call Anne Mc
Sharry on 087-2960057 to express your interest.
Windsor
Walk:
In September 2008 Jim & Helena Sheehan invited their neighbours to join
them in a charity walk in their area. As well as
encouraging community spirit and healthy living they
managed to raise over €4000 for Neri Clinics through the
generosity of their neighbours and friends. It is hoped
this will become an annual event in their locality.
Bag Packing for Neri Clinics,
Ballina, Co. Mayo:
Over 35
volunteers gathered for a day of bag
packing at Dunnes
Stores, Ballina County Mayo fundraising for Neri
Clinics. This event took place on the 23rd of December
2008 and raised €3000. It was a wonderful fundraising
event and a great opportunity to spread the word of the
work of Neri Clinics in
Lusaka.
Westport
Fashion Show:
Dr. Mary Casey
called on Mayo’s wealth of talent to show off the great
fashion available in the boutiques in Wesport Co. Mayo.
It took place in the idyllic setting of Westport Country
Lodge Hotel on 22nd April 2009. Tickets were
charged at €10 each and all proceeds were in aid of Neri
Clinic. A raffle took place at the interval after a
brief introduction to Neri Clinics by Dr. Patrick Mc
Sharry who represented the group on the night. All
prizes were kindly sponsored by local businesses and
Neri Clinics wishes to thank the hotel for facilitating
the event and making it a memorable night. A staggering
€3,800 was raised on the night for Neri Clinics.
Westport
Church
Gate Collection:
Dr. Mary Casey joined by enthusiastic volunteers
collected €1585 from mass goers over the Easter
Ceremonies (April 2009) in Westport Co. Mayo. A sincere
thanks to all who collected and contributed especially
to Dr. Mary Casey for her tireless efforts in
fundraising for Neri Clinics.
Gonzaga College 2009:
We would also like to sincerely
thank the pupils and staff of Gonzaga
College
in
Dublin
for making a donation of € 5000 euro to our clinic. This
will help to make a real difference to the community in
the
Linda
Township. The third years
raised funds by organising a fast and their efforts are
very much appreciated. Neri Clinics would also like to
thank Mr. Kevin Whirdy, Headmaster of Gonzaga College,
and Ms. Ita McConville for their hard work and giving
their time to assist with the fundraising for our
project.
Shannon Coffee Morning May 2009:
A coffee morning was organised by
Mrs.
Bridget Curran in Shannon, Co. Clare to raise funds and
awareness of Neri Clinics. Bridget gave up not only her
time but also her kitchen on Wednesday the 20th May in
our cause. Bridget has been a long term family friend of
the Flynn's in Shannon and when she heard that Ronan Flynn was involved
in Neri Clinics she jumped at the chance to help. She in
turn was assisted by her son Paul who printed 200
leaflets for advertising purposes at no cost to Neri.
Bridget hand delivered all the notices to friends and
neighbours and the result was a resounding success!!
Over one hundred people descended on the Curran
Household throughout the day (and the following day and
after!) and in total has raised over €1,500 for Neri
Clinics!! The response by visitors on the day was
overwhelming not only in their financial support but in
their eagerness to hear about the recently opened clinic
and further developments and fund-raising events
organised for Neri Clinics. On behalf of all at Neri
Clinics I would like to express our sincere gratitude to
you Bridget.
Burren Half Marathon May 2009:
On Saturday 23rd May Vasudha Lakhera (Vu to those who
know and love her!) ran the Burren half
Marathon in aid of Neri Clinics. Vu runs a
marathon each year in aid of a cause she feels
is worthwhile and bringing some useful assistance to
those in need. We were very honoured this year when Vu
decided she would donate her hard earned funds to Neri
Clinics. Vu trained for months in advance and ran the
race in under 2 and a half hours. In addition to all
this work Vu set up a fund-raising page on the Neri
Clinics
www.mycharity.ie page and raised €450 as well as
collecting donations in person. On behalf of all at Neri
Clinics I would like to express our sincere gratitude to
you Vu.
Neri Clinics Calendar 2009:
Ronan Flynn produced a calendar using only photos he had
taken himself whilst in
Zambia. The calendar
was produced at a remarkably low budget and all 1,000
calendars were sold. These calendars could not have been
sold without the assistance of so many friends and
family who took the time to sell the calendars at their
workplace. In particular Dr Michael Flynn deserves a
special mention for taking in almost half the funds
raised. This is a tradition which we hope to continue
each year from now on.
Irish Country Women’s Association, Charleville, Co.
Cork 2009:
At an early
stage Neri Clinic received the support and subsequent
sizeable donation of €14,000 from the Irish Country
Women's Association based in Charleville, Co. Cork. This donation came about through the
family connection of that organization with the Irish
Mercy Sisters in Linda compound. It was the great work
of the Sisters that introduced Neri to the people of
Linda and remain a continued source of Inspiration for
our group. This donation allowed a vision of making a
difference become a reality for which we are forever
grateful for.
Pharmaceutical Company Donation:
The
work of Neri Clinics is recognised in the financial
support given to us by leading pharmaceutical companies.
These include €5000 from Pfizer, €3000 from Pinewood
Pharmaceuticals and €2000 from Aztra Zeneca. We wish to
thank all those who have donated to us.
